Another Look at Immigration

I just read a pro-immigration article, and I want to share it with everyone. I like what this writer has to say, and I happen to also be a strong advocate of the Cato Institute.

To read the article in full, click here.

Clarification is very important. The general rhetoric is "pro-immigration" or "anti-immigration" and this is a misrepresentation. We who support immigration control are not against immigration; rather, we are against illegal immigration.

Yes, the US was built and continues to be supported by an immigrant population. That should continue. By the same token, we must know who comes to this country; we should insure that they are healthy; we should insure that they enter with the intent to abide by our laws. That is the essence of the argument.

Having read the article in full, I would like to address the ending portion. The author makes the statement that one time Italians, Germans, Chinese etc. were all complained about because of language. There is one hugh difference... Eurpoean and Asian immigrants had the desire to learn English. The modern day immigrant does not. Instead, he wants everything tailored to him in two languages. There is more than just the hispanic immigrant in this country. If we start doing that than why not do it for all. The better solution to this is plain and simple. Learn the language of the country you have decided to live and work in and have struggled so hard to get to. The author gives statics to try and prove that the modern immigrant is assimalating as well as other immigrants. I don't know where he gets his info from but mine comes from the school I work in and the children I tutor. I tutor 10 year olds who were born here and can't understand or read English well enough to pass in school. They pass the ELA standards because they are so low, but they can't make the grade. To the credit of this family they have a tutor for thier child, but this child was born here and reached the age of 10 without being fluent in the language. I was born in this country and spoke Italian before I spoke English. Once I went to school, Italian was no longer spoken to me at home because my parents who already spoke English dropped the Italian.

The second problem I have with this article is the presentation of nice families, couples, baby carriages. That's not what I saw going on in California. What I saw were illegal immigrants flying the American flag upside under their Mexican flag. Again my answer to you is if you love Mexico that much go back. Stop fleecing my country and how DARE you insult me, my forefathers and my country by dishonoring my flag. I wouldn't do that to yours and don't expect me to accept it being done to mine.

I feel very strongly about this topic. I understand the jobs being done by these immigrants are important and useful jobs, but not at the expense of my America. The land that I love. Once again, if you don't love it than leave it. SIMPLE.

The idea of work visas or passes is fine. They should be taxed like everyone else and aid the society they live in not burden it. Don't under mind their poverty and make it sound as if it is ok for them to live off the taxes I pay. Because I DON'T LIKE IT. I work hard for my pay and lose about one third of it to taxes that support things I don't want supported. I was born to poor parents and lived on the lower east side. I worked hard for my education. I worked full time and went to college and paid for it myself. So can they.

A country divided against itself can not stand. America will not stand for long if we are not united in heart, soul and language.
